Drove out to the country on Saturday and was thrilled beyond belief to discover
SNOW!
I appear to be the only one happy about the collective inaccuracies of the prognosticating groundhogs!

Group 3rd

Driving in Ontario in February can be challenging! We spent about 18 hours in the car over 4 days. Since the temperatures and windchills were COLD, it was nice to have something fun and exciting to do indoors. Being awarded a Group 3rd for 43 Top Dog points on Saturday was very very exciting! A few candid shots from the ring:

Since we were finished by noon on Sunday, I got to enjoy a country romp in the snow (icing sugar compared to the amount of snow on the ground in Woodstock).

I don't think we were on Abbey Road!

It Never Rains It Pours

above parched grass due to a month of drought

Guelph - near zero visibility due to HEAVY rain
prompting numerous drivers to park on the shoulder

Rather than park on the side of the Hwy (very unsafe) to wait out the downpour, we exited at Guelph and headed to RENs Pet Depot.  Barely a km North of the Hwy the sky was blue with white fluffy clouds!!!

As this was our third day of long drives, we headed to the farm to stretch our legs.  Not a single drop of rain had fallen there!  We arrived home to wet grass - yeay.

The "winter that wasn't" is creating confusion for plants and critters alike. Lawns are green, shrubs are budding (forsythia are already in full bloom) a month or so earlier than normal and reptiles are emerging from their dens just as temps are plunging below zero. While searching for birds on Sunday, I came across this large sunbathing garter snake under some thorny shrubs.

Super Bowl Weekend

Our weekend didn't have anything to do with the "Super Bowl" but it was SUPER FUN. We made the most of 2 beautiful winter days by driving out to the country where I ran around for hours, explored the frozen pond, enjoyed a few snow cones, played frisbee, ...  With the warm temps, the ground was really smooshy so I got all muddy and stinky!   

Anatomy of a Recall

A beautiful day for a drive to the country.  Wore a harness with a 30' long-line for the first time.  Didn't trip myself with the line or anyone else but there were a few close calls. I got to race around the fields and practice my recalls amid the distractions of "the great outdoors." My speedy returns were randomly rewarded with cookies, cheese (until it was lost in one of the fields - sheeesh) and tugging sessions.

If the camera specs are to be believed, the following 8 frames occurred in one second - now that's a FAST recall. I know I'm fast but I don't think I'm quite that fast so I suspect that it took at least 2 seconds to reach Mom (I was dragging a 30' line after all!).
