8 Months of Age

8 months   /   35 weeks   /   245 days
SNOW makes me SMILE !

8 weeks marked a very busy day

Rock-diving attempts thwarted, again

After some morning mischief in the garden, off we all went for our check-up and vaccinations. Never one to sit still in a waiting room...

tumbling into the exam room while wrestling with Elsie
practicing a new skill
attempting to stand still for my exam

Happy "8 Months" to all my sibs!

It's my bed, and I'll tear if I want to ...

It all started with a thread...

and in less than a minute ...

Very expensive dog bed - good thing it was purchased at a deeply discounted price!

Will this mean the return of the dreaded puppy bed?

Dun dun dun dunnnnn ...

New Trick

Wacky weather (way below freezing/double digits turning the ground to muck/heavy rain/heavy winds) provides the perfect excuse for staying indoors and learning a new trick.

Glitches Galore!

Well, the "camera hound" is not called the "computer hound" for a reason!!  Technological Dinosaur (H. sapiens webosaurus)! If you've been noticing photos disappearing (and, perhaps, reappearing) from the posts don't blame the Vizsla. Apparently, there was some confusion as to the appropriate file size for a photo - different searches reveal different answers. Anyway, the long and short of it is that the "free" storage on Picasa was full. Yup, needed a lesson in file management with regard to Picasa albums. After much hair-pulling, teeth gnashing and #%&>*$^!, all the relevant albums were located on Picasa. Turns out, file size wasn't the only issue: there existed multiple copies of the same photos (how? why? don't ask!).

Now that one human and one delete button are worn out, the Vizsla can get back to the work at hand. So, here is an appropriately-sized, single copy of a warm and fuzzy photo of Yours Truly flashing a Hi-5 at 12 days of age.

 Happy Computing, Everyone!

Proprioception 360

Here I am sitting on (well, mostly on) the wobbly disc.

To learn "hind-end awareness," I turn 360 degrees in both directions on the balance disc. It was -5 and the reason the balance disc is blurry is that I breathed on the camera and my breath created an icy film on the lense (as opposed to a smudge). The camera hound's fingers were sooo cold that she had trouble dispensing treats properly and her "clickering" was a bit off (not sure if she was clicking my foot movements or her own!).

Friday the 13th Part Two

Just lost a puppy upper canine. Yeay!  I was not relishing the prospect of dental surgery. Now I just need the other one to come out. As there was blood "everywhere," we don't know the catalyst. Was it jumping up and grabbing the camera hound's mitten, perhaps!?!

Friday the 13th

Well, it's been exactly 6 weeks of waiting for SNOW! and I have two low-pressure systems (one from the Prairies and one from Texas) to thank for today's fun.  Safe Driving, everyone, and Happy Snow Day!

Now, I have it on good authority (although, the camera hound won't elaborate on how she came to possess this knowledge) that, under these weather conditions, one should not lick metal or icicles and, definitely, DO NOT eat yellow snow!

Anatomy of a Recall

A beautiful day for a drive to the country.  Wore a harness with a 30' long-line for the first time.  Didn't trip myself with the line or anyone else but there were a few close calls. I got to race around the fields and practice my recalls amid the distractions of "the great outdoors." My speedy returns were randomly rewarded with cookies, cheese (until it was lost in one of the fields - sheeesh) and tugging sessions.

If the camera specs are to be believed, the following 8 frames occurred in one second - now that's a FAST recall. I know I'm fast but I don't think I'm quite that fast so I suspect that it took at least 2 seconds to reach Mom (I was dragging a 30' line after all!).

King of the Hill
"Here!"
Was that fast enough?

Check out my quick response and travelin' speed!

Check out my travelin' ears!

Rally-O

Well, it doesn't look like I'll be participating in any winter sports this winter. In two days it's gone from 14 degrees below seasonal to 10 degrees above seasonal. Yep, it's currently a balmy 9c!

Today, I met "the cones" and experimented with the sport of Rally Obedience. Other than goofy moves on our walks, we haven't actually worked on the individual Rally exercises so I was just doing my best to follow along.

Here's my very first 360 Left (not too bad considering the awkwardly turning human).

This sequence contains:  a lovely start line set up; a very nice 360R; 1,2,3 forward; about L turn; fast forward from a sit; sit walk around; R turn; and 1,2,3 back finish L (performed by a very enthusiastic V and a human who apparently can't count to 3 correctly).

If this wonky weather (freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw) continues, I'll be up to my elbows in mud any day now. This is what happened when I took a sharp turn while running laps:
Did I do that?

Brrrrrrr

WOW!
-15c is COLD!!!  (feels like -21 with the windchill)
I have now experienced extremes in temperature
with a range in excess of 50 degrees celsius

Way back when Will and I were 7 weeks old
when, unlike today, ice would have been a welcome treat
